Dr. Eleftherios Petrakis, PhD, MSc, has been a post-doctoral research associate at the Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, since October 2016. He has received his degree in Agricultural Sciences/Agricultural Chemistry from the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. His post-graduate studies were carried out at the Laboratory of Chemistry of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the same University, with an emphasis on the study and utilization of natural products. During his doctoral research, he developed new approaches for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of different classes of phytochemicals. He has coauthored two book chapters and has published more than 10 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Talanta, Food Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and Phytochemical Analysis, while he has over 22 contributions in national and international conferences. Dr. Petrakis is also an inventor of a European patent associated with the recovery of cannabinoids from plant material. His research interests involve separation, isolation, and analysis of natural products by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, green extraction techniques, method development and validation, chemometrics, plant and food metabolomics, bioactivity assessment (in vitro) of secondary metabolites, and investigation of their structure-activity relationships. He has been a guest researcher at the Chemistry Department of Idaho State University (USA) and the NMR laboratory of ISMAC/CNR in Milan (Italy) and during the last 12 years has gained extensive experience in research projects, at national and European level.
